2.40 JALEO – Kempton (9/1) with PADDYPOWER.
Formerly trained on the flat by GODOLPHIN, JALEO has taken well to hurdles winning three races and finished a fine 2nd behind CLAN DES OBEAUX a high-class chaser in the making. JALEO is held in high regard by BEN PAULING and has spoken very good words heading into the race on his chances today and says he will stay the 2m5f with no problem.
JALEO remains unexposed and I was pleased the way this horse won seasonal debut, coming from well off the pace to get up close home when jumping far from fluently. JALEO shouldn’t have any ground concerns and was thought good enough to contest last year’s FRED WINTER at the CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL but didn’t jump well and finished 10th of 22 runners.
Maybe his experience took its toll but he could only improve on that performance. A mark of 137 looks fair as most horses rated between 130-140 usually win this race and if the jumping department has improved I’m sure he will finish in the frame at least.
