Our first festival in a long time where we come away down. Very disappointing however as I always say we can take both positives and negatives from every festival and use them in the future.
The first day couldn’t have started on a worse note with all three selections failing to hit the mark. Haulani was given a terrible ride by Hanagan who was woeful all festival. He had a total of 14 rides in that time but didn’t manage to steer one to victory. White Chin is a horse we will certainly be taking forward. A step up in trip will bring about more improvement and I can’t wait for the horse to run again.
The second day was filled with bad luck. We had 4 4ths all tipped up at huge prices, a 3rd and a 2nd but yet couldn’t find that elusive winner. Letmestopyouthere made very eye-catching late progress, he was last with a furlong to go but came home strongly after being given far too much to do to grab 4th. Strategic Force will certainly be winning soon, the next time this horse is entered I hope he gets a good draw because he will be of major interest. Rousayan was another who should be winning soon, he will find easier races than the one he contested and he should really have won that one which says a lot.Windforpower caught the eye at Newcastle and will surely pick up the winning thread sooner rather than later of his reduced mark.
The third and final day couldn’t have started on a better note with Rosabelle hosing up at Chester, not often I say this but it was a great ride by Graham Gibbons. We also had a few places but it ultimately wasn’t enough to claw ourselves back into profit. Horses to take away from the day were Out Do who travelled very strongly but was found short of room in the closing stages, the same comment can be applied to Rural Celebration who I would imagine will be winning next time out. Very Talented put in a very good run in The Cambridgeshire. He was just undone by the draw, if he was drawn near side he wins but that’s the luck of the draw and we will take 3rd place. I also don’t think it is time to lose faith with Mama Africa who was squeezed for room in the final furlong when looking to be coming home well.
It wasn’t a festival I will be remembering with much fondness however it just makes me more determined to smash the next one.
